The NEWBIAS record label and the RUGLABS studios were originally started up in London by AJ Russell as the main vehicle for his own projects as a songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. The first solo project, out under his nickname “CARPETFACE” has had an EP, 3 Singles, a 38-track Double Album and follow-up instrumental dub-set all released to critical acclaim amid over 400 live shows played worldwide since it all began in late 2002,.



Over this short period NEWBIAS has achieved ITUNES distribution for its catalogue, mail-order partnership with Airculture, release distribution to a few well chosen independent record shops in the UK, Germany and USA including the FOPP chain and Rough Trade stores, along with some international radio-play and MTV video exposure.



Other partners in crime include DVS, Dope Clothing, Mattix, Lakai, 4-Star, TKS productions, D-sin Industries, VOID Acoustics, Frontline, Whatever the Weather, Vertigo Films, Nitro, MTV Europe, Asa Bailey, Covert Recordings, Jim Hickey, Bearded Man, The Altitude Festival and For Boarders By Boarders.



Since the 2005 release of Carpetface's Album HAVE MIC WILL TRAVEL, NEWBIAS and the RUGLABS studio projects have continued to grow to involve new artists produced by Carpetface with their debut releases due out on the label over the coming months, including :



- an album of modern songwriting classics from singer/songwriter/guitarist RW HEDGES



- a filthy new EP from catastrophic punk band QUIM REAPER

(which features the dulcet and angelic tones of Joycey from Dirty Sanchez on lead vocals).



- an album of refreshingly oldschool party hiphop from the GOOSENECK STEPPERS
(Carpetface and Audible Porno taking their live skills into the studio)



- an instrumental album project from funk, jazz and blues outfit THE ZEAGUES



- and organic whimsical journeys through musical history

brought to you lovingly by nostalgic collective The CENTAURS.





We have also recently launched RUGLAB STUDIO PRODUCTIONS,

servicing clients in the Film, TV and Advertising industries,

specializing in bespoke composition/production/arrangement,

musical and vocal performance work along with voice acting services.
